What is Stoicism? - Personal Development

 Stoicism has been come though some of history's great leaders. It has been practiced by Kings, presidents, artists, writers and entrepreneurs. Stoicism was first introduced in 3rd century by Greek attitudes.




Stoicism teaches the development of self-control and overcoming of destructive emotions. The philosophy holds that becoming a clear understand of the universal reason.

Stoic person

Being stoic is being calm and almost without any emotion. When you're stoic, you don't show what you're feeling and you also accept whatever is happening.

Marc Aurele’s Meditations:

Meditations is a series of personal writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from AD 161 to 180. 




He recorded his private notes to himself and ideas on Stoic philosophy. He was the last of the "Five Good Emperors", and is also considered one of the more important Stoic philosophers. 

Marcus Aurelius wrote the 12 books of the Meditations in Greek. In this he wrote about his own guidance and self-improvement.

His words teach the readers of the Meditations many practical tools to reach their goals, overcome obstacles, be kind to others, and more



Stoic Ethics:

  • Live according to nature Means, in the first place, that men should conform themselves to nature in the wider sense, that is, to the laws of the universe. And secondly, that they should conform their actions to nature in the narrower sense, to their own essential nature, reason. 

  • Morality is simply rational action. 

  • Stoic belive in:

The Stoics tells that virtue alone is good. Poverty, sickness, pain, and death, are not evils. Riches, health, pleasure, and life, are not goods. A person may commit suicide, for in destroying his life, he destroys nothing of value. Above all, pleasure is not a good. Virtue is the only happiness.

All things, they said, even the soul, even God himself, are material and nothing more than material.

  • The world is divided into wise &  foolish people:

The wise person is perfect, has all happiness, freedom, riches, beauty. They alone are the perfect kings, politicians, poets, prophets, critics, and physicians. 

The fool has all vice, all misery, all ugliness, all poverty.

Moderation.




Happiness in Stoicism:

The Stoics were happy, they wrote about happiness, and they taught others how to be happy.

Stoicism tells beautifully about overcoming difficulties. Obstacles push people to find their inner strengths and, in the process of overcoming difficulties, become happy finally.




Conclusion:

stoicism recognizing that humans and their problems represent only an extremely small portion of this immense universe. We need to eliminate unnecessary assumptions and actions. Minimalism has many positive effects on people’s lives.
